Dishwashers probably aren’t the most exciting appliance going, but they’re certainly an integral part of any professional kitchen. It’s important to replace your dishwasher as soon as you can to avoid any repairs that might keep it going that little bit longer, but could be costly. Once your dishwasher starts to frequently breakdown and you’re often getting someone in to do repairs, it’s time to start looking for a replacement. We find that in pubs, restaurants or any other establishment with high volume, frequent use, dishwashers can last around five to eight years. In places like schools, where the dishwasher isn’t in use all year round, they can last a little longer, around six to ten years. The life of a dishwasher in a residential care facility, where there is a lesser volume of washing required but the machine is in use 365 days a year, falls somewhere in the middle.

Spreading the Cost

So it’s time to replace your dishwasher, how will you cover the costs? Commercial dishwashers are strong, durable and long lasting pieces of equipment, meaning they’re not a cheap purchase. Once you’ve chosen your new dishwasher, or we’ve helped you to choose one, we can also help you with payment options. Often businesses would prefer to spread the cost rather than make one full payment up front. If this is the case, Prestige offer lease-to-buy payment plans over 2,3,4 or 5 years. At the end of the plan, you’ll own the dishwasher outright. We’ve found this is the most popular way of buying a replacement dishwasher amongst our customers.

How to Keep Your New Dishwasher in Top Condition

Now that your new dishwasher is in place and everyone knows how to use it, it’s vital that staff are also trained in best practice to help maintain the dishwasher’s condition. After all, it’s not a small purchase! Below we’ve outlined some of our tips for keeping your dishwasher in top shape.

Daily tasks:

When the dishwasher is in use, it’s a good idea to keep as much food as possible out of it by rinsing plates, cutlery and utensils before they go in the machine. After service, having turned off your machine, drained it and removed any baskets after service, the dishwasher will need a general wipe down inside. Remove the filters and wash these too. Top up any chemicals then rinse out and leave the machine open to dry and drain.

Weekly tasks:

It’s important to give your dishwasher a thorough clean every week. Many modern appliances, including dishwashers, have a self clean function but it’s a good idea to clean the machine manually on a regular basis too. Once the dishwasher is off, remove the arms, strip them and clean them.

Keeping your dishwasher clean is vital to ensuring it has a long life within your kitchen. If you think your existing dishwasher is in need of a service or perhaps it’s on it’s way out and you’re in the market for a new one then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
